Finding Employment in NZ

Improve your chances of finding a employment...

There is a strong demand for skilled migrants in New Zealand and the better qualified you are, the better your chances of securing appropriate employment.  Finding a job in New Zealand can be very challenging, even for well qualified migrants, and it can take several months to find a suitable position.

Have your international qualification/s assessed

There are several things that you could do to improve your chances and to set yourself apart from the rest.  The first and probably the most important thing that you could do is to have your international qualification/s assessed comparative to New Zealand qualifications to determine whether your qualification/s meet the New Zealand standards.  This information would be extremely helpful in finding employment; registering with a professional body in NZ; and/or further study and vital when submitting an application for Residence.   Some international qualifications are already recognised here in NZ and do not require further assessment.

So, if you would like to know if your international qualification/s require assessment, please complete our online immigration questionnaire and attach your CV when requested to do so.  We will then be able to determine, from the information you provided, whether or not you should have your international qualification/s assessed and advise you accordingly.  We are also able to assist you with your application for assessment of your international qualification/s for a reasonable fee.  Please contact us for more information.

"Tweak" your CV

It would also help if you "tweaked" your CV for the New Zealand labour market.  Your CV should be brief (between 2 - 4 pages) and should provide a summary of your:

  • contact details (in New Zealand)
  • residence status, e.g. work visa, permanent residence, etc.
  • qualifications and computer skills
  • professional/trade skills
  • work experience and achievements
  • referees (minimum 2)

You are not required to attach any reference letters or other documentation to your CV.  These can be requested during the job review process.

Please feel free to download FREE CV and cover letter templates to help you create a CV geared towards the NZ Labour Market.

Also, please do not hesitate to contact us, should you require any assistance or advice in this regard.

Acquire professional registration (if applicable)

Some employers require you to have professional registration, even if this is not a legal requirement. It is therefore recommended that such professional registration (if applicable) be acquired before attempting to apply for jobs in New Zealand.

To find out whether you need to apply for professional registration in your occupation, please click on the Registration Boards in New Zealand link for a complete list.

Please contact us here at South African Kiwi Ltd., should you require any assistance with your application to any of these Registration Boards.  We will be more than happy to be of service to you for a reasonable fee.
